THE SANDY LANE TRUST'S SPECIAL CONTRIBUTION TO BARBADIAN CHILDREN'S CHARITIES
In March 2007, the Early Stimulation Centre and Sunshine Village was officially opened in Barbados, by our Prime Minister, The Rt. Hon. Owen Arthur.
Announced in 2005, and commenced in 2006, this project was pioneered by the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust. The Sunshine Village is a complex which consists of seven purposebuilt treatment centres, each dedicated to a different children’s charity. These include therapy facilities for physically challenged children, teaching facilities for mentally challenged children and hospice facilities for children with cancer.
Prime Minister Arthur publicly thanked the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust, whose investment in the Sunshine Village helped to make it a reality. He acknowledged the efforts of these “friends of Barbados”
Monies for the Sunshine Village Project were raised during the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust Fundraiser in January 2007. Patrons of the fundraiser enjoyed a golf tournament on the Sandy Lane Country Club followed by a cocktail reception and exotic buffet dinner, entertainment as well as live and silent auctions. Items auctioned included a Mercedes Benz R350 and 2006 Ryder Cup Captain, Ian Woosman’s golf bag. The event raised approximately US$1.2 million, the highest amount ever raised for a single charity event in Barbados. Funds raised were contributed towards the Sunshine Village as well as other local children’s charities.
