BARBADOS AND THE CARIBBEAN WELCOME CRICKET FANS
On April 28th 2007, all eyes were on Barbados, as we hosted the final of the Cricket World Cup at the newly renovated and world famous, Kensington Oval.
This was an historic occasion, the first time that the Caribbean islands hosted an ICC Cricket World Cup. The islands showcased an explosion of culture and hospitality, with matches being played in Jamaica, Grenada, St. Kitts, Antigua, Guyana, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Barbados.
Disappointing their fans, traditionally strong teams Pakistan, India, England and the West Indies all failed to make it to the semi-final stage.
The Cricket World Cup concluded with 2003 World Cup defending champions, Australia, taking on Sri Lanka for a 53 run win. Several resort guests and many Sandy Lane Champions were entertained at the magnificent Kensington Oval during the Super 8 matches and were on hand for the final on April 28th.
